One of the last updates has broken my audio.  When Ubuntu 8.10 boots up
I get a period of white noise.  As the boot up continue the noise stops.
If I do the System>Sound Preferences>Device and then click the [test] I
get the same white noise. The same when System>Sound>Sounds>Login I get
the same white noise.

Both the PulseAudio Sound Server and ALSA - Advanced Linux Sound
Architecture produce the white noise.

I have had the sound to work with Ubuntu 8.10 for awhile, but about 3 or
4 updates ago it was broken by the update.
