I cannot reproduce the heavy CPU on my home desktop computer. Same
version of Ubuntu. CPU stays under 10%

Totem runs at about 37% cpu - perhaps it is a gstreamer issue...
Mplayer hardly registers.

thanks for the report, not here, it uses like 2% of cpu, do you get the
same with totem? that's maybe a gstreamer issue.
