Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer

I am typing an essay in french and when a word I typed lacks an accent,
the french spell check asks me to correct it so I right click on the
word to correct it but the accents come out wrong and it seems like a
completely different character has been created! Some characters work
for me like the accent on the e or the u but the two dots on top of the
e for example doesn't come out as what it is supposed to be!
