that's a command line utility, could you start your session, open a command
line and try
- aplay /usr/share/sounds/question.wav
- gst-launch playbin uri=file:///directory/to/example
- totem example
and tell us what is printed for each and if sounds is played correctly?

the 2 other sounds
logging in and error. Once i assign a wav, no mp3's play after login.
