Steps to replicate:
1. Install a clean OS of Ubun
As I mentioned earlier, the kernel fix is already in our pre-released
repository, please follow the steps below to test again. Wireless issue
can be fixed.
1. Refer to the attached screenshot. After a fresh 8.10 install, open software
update source, check Pre-released updates, and close.
2. Run
As the packages changed the kernel source code, wireless driver should
be rebuilt. I don't think any code in wireless driver should be changed.
So somebody in Ubuntu please help to rebuild the wireless driver bits
with the kernel source code provided by David Chen.

Tested with the attached linux-
image-2.6.27-14-generic_2.6.27-14.34_i386.deb kernel package and
previous xorg driver patch, resolutions can be detected correctly.

After installing both packages, system can detect all the supported resolutions.
Here is the result from xrandr:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 1600 x 1600
VGA connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x
255mm
1440x900 59.9*+ 75.0
David Chen verified that the experiment did work!

So it looks like the missing piece was in the kernel. This card has to allocate
all it's memory via AGP. The intrepid kernel was missing AGP support:

I tried the new xorg.conf and it doesn't work. According to the
Xorg.0.log.old, seems the system load the Intel driver, but failed and load

file.

I tried to install all the update and edit the xorg.conf file according
to Jerone's suggestion. Then install the fix driver. System still can't

That means the intel driver failed to load and it then fell back to
safe graphics mode. I'll see what more I can look into. It appears backporting
support for the G41 is a lot more involved then expected. Will get back to you
shortly.

Ok this chipset/graphics combination is supported by the intel driver in
Jaunty (9.04). Checking the Intel driver I found:

It also has it in the proper table in i810_driver.

This looks lot be a newer version of the Intel 4500 chip. The chip id
may not be in the driver. Could you try out the Jaunty live CD .. you don't
need to install it , you can see if comes up with the proper resolution in the
Live Session.

I read the logs. The reason you are seeing this is that the machine is
using the "Vesa" video driver and not the intel video driver. The revision of
the intel chip may not be in the database of supported intel chips in 8.10.
Could you try out a Jaunty Live CD and see if you get the
