Well, if someone can confirm that downgrading intel driver (and
explaining how to do it :-) ) will fix the issue on Jaunty, I can paint
myself happy...
On the other side: ¿is there anywhere a tutorial on how to use UXA and
the new drivers (and how to recover in case of disaster)? I suppose I

Just tested it with the Live CD. X locked (black screen, just the mouse
pointer in view) at the first attempt to suspend/resume. My laptop is a
Toshiba Satellite U305 with built-in Intel graphics. I guess I am doomed
to stay with Intrepid. What a pity.

...especially noticing that the upstream bug is marked fixed. Could
someone put at least a how-to install Jaunty and solve the bug? Does it
suffice to put a 2.6.30 kernel in, with EXA and current -intel driver?
Or it is more complex than this? Thanks in advance...

It was closed because I reported that I didn't get the bug any more
with UXA/DRI2/Kernel 2.6.30. That pretty much completely changes the
entire driver code, nothing we could ever put into
OK, two what next questions then...
1. Where did you find the 2.7.0 version, I don't seem to have that
available and I thought I had every Intel driver repo known to man
configured. :-)
2. If we file an upstream bug specific to EXA... will it be marked
WONTFIX, because EXA is on the way out?
Does downgrading xserver-xorg-video-intel to version 2.4 work around
this problem?

Is this bug fixed too with the Virtual upping that seems to fix Intel 965GM
In bug#359392 ? I have a 945GM based laptop and I am waiting the resolution to
this before upgrading (I use the laptop heavily in my daily job and I cannot

Darn! Well, I'll wait, I suppose that when a solution is found it will
be posted here. I could try (next week) to boot a live-cd Jaunty and see
if I can reproduce from there... could it be useful for the bug chase?

Romano: No, sorry - firstly that won't fix the problem on a 945GM, and
secondly the patch that the guys plan to deploy is specifically only
activated on a 965 and will therefore ignore your laptop (and mine :-) )

This bug will most likely not be
Then Jaunty needs an SRU enabling the appropriate workarounds
automagically, unless there's a good reason we can't do that?
I realise we might never get random freezes fixed properly against
earlier kernels, so I understand this point of view, but...!

So... which workaround do you mean? Turning off DRI and composite as in
the Release Notes? If that, it's most unfortunate having to decide
between Jaunty and a crippled system... I hope you will reconsider, at
least by way of a PPA.
Has the problem being identified? It's a kernel one? Updating to
For the record, with 2.6.30rc3, UXA, and -intel 2.7.0, things are
running just fine here, no more freezes after suspend.

Please also see my previous comment and my upstream followup. I don't
think the original issue here can be reliably debugged with the x

We have a PPA with some new tools for debugging X freezes:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test
I know how irritating X freezes can be. They're also typically
quite hard to debug, but the information provided by these new
tools should help upstream figure them out.
For the record, I tried to use intel_reg_dump, but the new kernel/libdrm
totally change the bug. I followed up upstream.

this is being worked on.
There are several freeze bugs and special measures has been taken to
minimize impact. However is highly probably that Jaunty is released with
some of this still open.
This one is related (not dupe) to bug #359392

I'd like to chime in and say that I am experiencing this problem in

One trend i've noticed with the i945 chipset problems, is that every
user seems to have a Dell. Could this be a unique problem to these
systems??
PS I also have a Dell+i945 + freezing problems.
