When reporting X bugs, you need to attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`,
and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this
issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
please attach that as well.

I forgot to mention-- i tried the 64-bit CD in an intal iBook as well.
Didn't get anywhere. Just showed a "_" in the top left hand corner.
Never showed boot options like language etc.

It sounds to me as if this is a lower-level problem than the installer;
for example, if the mouse freezes, that's not something that an ordinary
userspace application could typically cause. I'm going to reassign this
rather speculatively to X, but it could be a kernel problem too, or
something else
