Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Description: By changing the current screen resolution to the other
resolution, when attempting to change back or to the other, resolution
does not switch to the option selected.

Steps to replicate:
1. Power on the system and boot to the Ubuntu 8.10 OS.
2. Go to [System --> Preferences --> Screen Resolution] and select a resolution
other than the current one then apply.
3. Again, at the Screen Resolution setting, change the screen resolution to the
other one then apply.
4. Observe the phenomenon occurred. (i.e. - Screen resolution does not switch
to the option selected.)

Expected result: By changing the current screen resolution to the other
