I just encountered this bug on Karmic, same symptoms as the OP (trying to add channels, grey window, unresponsive, then crash). I was running a lot of internet stuff at the time, so maybe xchat was timing out and crashing? -- xchat-gnome crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__g_main_context_prepare()
