My hardware is a Dell XPS m1330 laptop, don't think it has any hardware
based crypto. I did re-install with with an encrypted home directory
with Jaunty RC. I have not seen the problem in the last week.

problems. eCryptfs' use of the kernel crypto API and AES-128 (what
encrypted home uses) has been heavily tested and I don't recall seeing
any problems like this before.

I re-installed without Encrypted Home, was crashing at random.

I ran ecryptfs-add-passphrase, and the problem has gone away for now. I
remember that the Jaunty 6 alt CD installer did not ask me for a
passphrase for my encrypted home directory.
