Currently I am testing patches from

which seem to solve the issue for me when compositing in KDE is turned
off. I haven't tested it with compositing turned on yet. I will report
back, when I have made more tests on this.

People are currently experiencing freezes on i945 in Karmic (and at
least one has verifed it on Lucid as well). However, I think they are
all using Gnome, and the freezes started well after this bug was
reported. It is possible that this bug has been fixed (the one leading
to freezes under KDE)

We have had several reports of freezes (GPU hangs) on i945 chipsets

Thank you Bryce for your reply - indeed I am using Kubuntu.
As the freezers are really annoying I tried to downgrade the intel
driver to version 2.4 (according to this:
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4).
Since than I had no freezers anymore.

Thanks, I've been noticing a preponderance of KDE-specific X freezes. I
understand that Qt was updated to a not quite stable version in Jaunty,
and wonder if downgrading that would make the freezes go away?

I also get this type of freezes almost once in a hour. There is nothing special
I could find out to reproduce the freeze.
Only one thing I would like to mention, when I ssh into the frozen machine,
an start the mplayer with a avi file. The playback of the sound is hearable on
that machine,
hax, are you using Kubuntu as well? If not, then report your bug
separately, via 'ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel', and also attach
your dri_debug.tgz to it.

I notice you reported this originally against 2.6.1; we are shipping
2.6.3 in Jaunty, which has a number of UXA fixes in it. Please retest
to see if you can reproduce this issue with the released Jaunty.

I know how irritating X freezes can be. They're also typically
quite hard to debug, but the information provided by these new
tools should help upstream figure them out.
