Public bug reported: Sometimes, after a resume, the fan runs at full speed until the system is completely shutdown. Another suspend/resume won't resolve this issue.
Analysis /proc/acpi/fan/FAN(0|1|2|3)/state give the state of the fan. After a resume, the bios activates the fan at full speed. And these variables should be updated. Most of the time, at least, one of these variables is set to "on" and Linux lower the fan speed after the resume. However sometimes all these variables are set to off (whereas the fan is running at full speed). In this case, the fan will remain at full speed. Workaround The workaround is to launch a program consuming a lot of CPU power, like burnK7. When the temperature reaches the first trip point (/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/CPUZ/trip_points), Linux activates the fan, and the fan speed is then reduced. uname-a Linux non-carus 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:24:39 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic 2.6.27-11.27 ProcCmdLine: User Name=UUID=d0140d59-c4e4-46fa-82d9-078ce590db6e ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.27-11.27-generic SourcePackage: linux ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Noisy fan after resume on HP 6735s (reproducibility about 20%) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
