This was fixed in Ubuntu 11.04 and later, in a rather blunt way, by
removing the Font Rendering Details window altogether. Anti-aliasing
settings are now in the Fonts panel of Advanced Settings, which --
at the default font size -- is only 480 pixels high.

Sebastien, it is still slightly off by a couple of pixels as the lower
window border can't been seen. Admittedly, this case is mostly cosmetic
as no functionality is marred by it.
