I can also confirm this bug on a Dell Vostro 1510 after upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid). Adding i8042.reset to the bootparameters of kernel 2.6.28-11-generic in the /boot/grub/menu.lst solves this problem for me too. Another interesting thing: When booting the old Ubuntu 8.10 Kernel
