I believe this problema really has something to do about firefox. I'm using
Fedora 11, and I have the exact same problem. All freezes, but the mouse
pointer.
Some research, and I found about xul problems, so I tried this way. At the
Fedora, I installed some packages like xulrunner-devel
Random freezes in UXA regardless of KMS/UMS were fixed for me in the commits
between -
NEWS: Add notes for 2.7.99.1 snapshot
and
Revert "Leave allocator running until lower-level CloseScreens are done"
on master branch. Also fixed in 2.7 branch (pre 2.7.1) as of -
3D_STATE_VERTEX_BUFFERS t
Same thing happens to me, intel graphics card, seems to happen when
opening a link in firefox.

I have a this bug on my Lenovo T400 laptop with Intel graphics.

Yes, I fixed the freeze by setting a high Virtual size as shown in the
other bug. However, it does not fix the "vblank count" error; I just
got it in my dmesg by switching to a VT. I even have Compiz working
now, after skipping checks! However, I don't think we're a duplicate of

I just install in my Dell Vostro 1013 an Ubuntu 9.04 released today.
After install everything works fine, but when i restart the note, the
screen with user input freezes... and NOTHING works anymore, i tried
Alt+F1 without success... this ocurred 5 times in sequence.. i think to
reinstall ... Sorry

Five days without a crash.
However today I found that by activating the reflection plugin in compiz froze
my system almost instantly. Didn't find a way around it yet. If it is disabled,
I can't crash the system at all. This is, as long as have the above mentioned

repro.sh for 10 minutes, while opening firefox a few dozen times), I

don't know exactly what I did to fix it. I was trying to reduce power
consumption on my laptop when it got fixed.
Trying to reproduce and find the cure, I decided to reinstall, so I formated
and installed 9.04 again. S

new Mesa packages (7.4-0ubuntu3), UXA enabled, and Compiz disabled

zwaldowski, the upstreem test you mentioned doesn't need the new kernel. The
new kernel AFAIK is for telneting into a frozen box.
You will need wmctrl installed for this to work (sudo apt-get install wmctrl).

On my GMA X3100 not using the patch 103 (same as
7.4-0ubuntu2~bug359392~1 packages) fixed the problem completely.
Unfortunatelty the 7.4-0ubuntu2~bug359392~1 packages cannot be anymore
easily installed as there was a "real" ubuntu2 release of mesa as well.

Jithin: I had a freeze this morning, about 3 hours ago. I'm using
Firefox 3.5 now to see if it happens again. I'm using UXA because it
fixes some problems, for example when I run glxgears in EXA mode and
cover its window with another one then there are graphical glitches,
none of that with UXA.

It works for me just fine on my laptop, since the Fn is just an "on-
switch" to the kernel, so just press Ctrl+Alt+Fn+Delete, then R, E, I,
S, U, B.

Mine was working fine for a day or two, I thought maybe an update resolved
this, but it just locked hard again. How do you perform the REISUB trick on
a laptop where the SYsReq is on the Delete key, requiring a Fn to be pressed
as well?
