There should be a more clever solution for differentiating between
"device disconnected" and "you are offline" cases. At the moment seeing
"you are now offline" message every time I get disconnected is very
annoying if there's only one connection source.

I agree with Scott (2012-03-21 -- above) it occupies valuable space on my
Netbook, too. I use a wired connection normally, as I am in marginal coverage;
and my wireless tirelessly connects up when I move closer. So both work, but I
am constantly bombarded by this silly message.

If you stop any connection from software (e.g. by choosing “Disconnect”
in the menu), no notification bubble should appear.
If a connection ends in any other way, a notification bubble should
appear with the icon of the connection, “Disconnected” as primary text,

Seems like I've been able to fix this by removing all leases from
/var/lib/dhcp/ and /var/lib/dhcp3/ directories.

I agree with scott symmank above. Every time I log on to my Acer
AspireOne that little notification bubble pops up and won't go away --
even though I am connected to a wireless network. The only way to get of
it is to click the X to close it.
Every. Single. Log in. Very annoying.

me, given that i already have the wireless status on the menu bar. and
the bubble kind of gets in the way, as well as the connected one.

harder to guess if the user never uses wired; also personally i think
its not really annoying to say: "Network Disconnected - You are now

technically, we can differentiate that case quite easily, we just need
to know what to tell the user and how to make that read different from
the case where one of many connections goes down.
