What version of Ubuntu are you using? Type "uname -a" on the command
line, as well.
The -k switch to modprobe hasn't been used in a long time. It used to
mark modules as "autoclean" so they could be automatically removed if
not in use. That mechanism was removed, and no package built for
kernel
