I have the same problem with Sugar gui. I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04
beta and I have installed sugar and sugar-activities packages.
Starting the sugar-emulator opens a window with just a black screen.
When I tried to change the GDM session to sugar I noticed following
problems:
- The first time
Ah, there's a gconf schema not being installed. I had forgotten about
that problem :(

I was not a member of pulse-rt
Adding dfarning to pulse looked like it move me forward a step.
the first couple of line of the new .xsession-error are: (the entire
.xsession-errors is attached)

Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US.
I suspect that these are only warnings and that the actual error will be
found in ~/.sugar/default/logs/shell.log
