Public bug reported:

I did a fresh install of jaunty beta from CD on my ASUS X50N.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/AsusF5N

I replaced the Atheros wireless card with an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100
(Version/Model Code: 512AN_MMW).

The card is recognized by the system but does not show up in ifconfig.

iwconfig returns the following:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
          Tx-Power=0 dBm
          Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

With enabled jaunty-proposed and jaunty-backports repositories and
installed linux-backports-modules-jaunty package Ubuntu hangs on reboot
before starting GDM.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
