I also have this problem in R (using Gutsy). The strange thing however
is that par(family="symbol") produces some good-looking plots without
rendering problems.

Works in Dapper. I am going to close the bug report now. Since nobody
else experimented the issue, I guess it was some problem with my fonts
configuration, so closing as rejected.
