Public bug reported:

The system was hibernated before it was started. During the start-up it
showed the Ubuntu logo, but didn't continue to boot. This bug shows up
occasionally, but most often hibernating and resuming does work
correctly. It doesn't seem to matter wether the hibernation was
performed after another hibernate and resume or from a cold boot, in
both cases this bug has occured. Before updating from Gutsy to Jaunty
beta the same problem appeared.
