This problem has not re-appeared for me in a long time. I've been
running karmic for a few months now, with other suspend/resume issues
that I've filed bugs for, but not with this problem. Perhaps it's
fixed, but not knowing what the original issue was, I have no way of
telling.

Hrm, not having an easily reproducible issues does make things a bit
more difficult to debug. Care to maybe try to confirm if this issue
remains with the latest development release of Ubuntu (ie Karmic). ISO
CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . You

This exact problem has not re-occurred in the 10 or so times I've
suspended and resumed since. Thus, I have no good way of reproducing or
narrowing down the cause of this problem.
