It works for me with setting only http-proxy in gnome's proxy setting. Firefox will use it. It works for both: firefox 3 and 3.5 Firefox 3.0.11+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 Firefox 3.5+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 So it seems this affects only SOCKS proxy, as the bug report descriptions itself
