Correct. also worked for me. i also get the same error messege as posted in bug
#439753
and as mentioned here mkdir ~/.klavaro touch ~/.klavaro/preferences.ini works
after that and starting once and
Just want to confirm: on Karmic (9.10) simply creating
~/.klavaro/preferences.ini makes the program work!!

Thank you all for this information. I've ubuntu 9.10 version and I
installed Klavaro from ubuntu software center, in application, but it
did not open so I installed all the dependencies and nothing worked
until i open my terminal and change Lang as you described above step by
step. It opened and

imo the quick fix is as follows, when I look in the current code the
error traces back to translation.c line 273 which says:
(gdb) run
Starting program: /tmp/klavaro-1.1.8/src/klavaro
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
[New Thread 0xb70fe730 (LWP 7135)]
Program received signal
I ran into this too. sudo apt-get build-dep had no effect as far as I
can tell.
Is there someone who has the expertise to debug this? I'll gladly help
but my coding skills are mainly in the scripting language domain.

I think to have published a fix for this in version 1.1.91. Don't know
how to change it in the current version for Ubuntu Jaunty. Is there some
packager here responsible for such that things? The diff between 1.1.8
and 1.1.91 would help, specially for the translation.c file.

After doing a sudo apt-get build-dep klavaro (and a couple of updates),
klavaro works OK. Don't know why however...

After some investigation, klavaro starts up when LANG is set to fr_FR.UTF-8 for
instance, but not for fr_BE.UTF-8.
Oddly enough, you still can select a belgian keyboard in the program.
This looks like a regression (it worked OK in hardy/intrepid);
