I'm hoping to add signal rather than noise to this, but I have symptoms that look largely the same to this bug. However, my story is a little different: I attempted to manually upgrade to the 185 driver directly from NVIDIA (the goal was CUDA 2.2), but it went belly-up so I have reverted back to 1
