It looks like other people are still having this problem, but this
problem has not existed for me since Karmic was released.
My apologies (as the bug submitter) for not having stayed on top of
this, particularly given the request to retest from a few months ago.

I am experiencing the same behavior on my dv9700. I found disabling the
screen saver fixes "the power button trick" I also found that I cannot
hibernate or suspend with the power cord unplugged.
