screensaver make crash GDM
1) No, I'm using the fglrx driver from the feisty-security official repo
2) I think this means (correct me if I'm wrong), in few words, upgrading half
of my system to gutsy, since that package depends on libc6
3) I'm not not using Beryl, since beryl doesn't exists anymore. I'm using
Compiz
I can't find a way to edit my last comment:
I correct myself on point 2...I will upgrade the last Xgl package from gutsy,
and I'll report back the result.
Stay tuned

Sorry for the third message in about 5 minutes.
I was right, the new Xgl package cannot be installed due to its dependecies.
So no way (for me) to try it without upgrading to gutsy.

I have a couple of questions here:
1) It seems that everyone here has manually installed the fglrx drivers from
the ATI/AMD website. Has anyone *not* manually installed fglrx?
2) Has anyone here tried the latest Xgl packages in Gutsy?
3) Is anyone here *not* using Beryl?
** Changed in:
I don't think this workaround solves the problem.
I don't have gutsy, I'm using feisty with Xgl and the latest fglrx driver. The
gnome-screensaver-preferences is working fine for me, without modifications to
the launcher. The creash happens only when the screen saver is activated.
Sometimes I

I can confirm this on Feisty. I'm running XGL + fglrx drivers + beryl,
and I cannot use screensaver. If I choose to just blank screen, the
screensaver unlock dialog crashes. If I try to use some 3d screensaver,
it crashes the whole desktop and immediately takes me to the gdm login
screen.

Sadly yes, mine did it this morning, as soon as the screensaver kicked
in it crashed to the login screen which is better than what it did to me
yesterday, it would lock my machine up and I had to power cycle it.

Same Here on an IBM Thinkpad T60p - I cannot even start the (gnome)

changed it to something else.

I am also experiencing a random crash back to the GDM login screen after
the screensaver is initialized while XGL running. Nothing too fancy

I have the same issue with XGL. I am running Edgy Eft with Beryl 0.1.4,
ATI fglrx driver 8.32.5-1, and xserver-xgl
7.0.0.git.20060725-0ubuntu2.1. The screensaver causes XGL to crash and
the login screen appears. It is reproducible if I preview the
screensaver using system preferences.
