Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: passwd

I think the bash history speaks for itself:

vic...@laptop:~$ sudo passwd <otheruser>
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
Sorry, passwords do not match
passwd: password updated successfully

How was it successful if the passwords did not match? I guess it was
updated without change? If so, I don't need to know about it.

Also, "Sorry," should be taken out completely from that error message. A
machine shouldn't act like it has feelings in this sort of mundane tasks
-- it should just say "Typed passwords differ/do not
match.<newline>passwd: Password unchanged for user: "<otheruser>"."

"Typed" should be there to distinguish from "passwords" as in "the old
and new passwords do not match", because that makes no sense. "But who's
going to think that's what it mea..." It doesn't hurt to be clear about
what you mean with just one extra word. :-)

Using Xubuntu 8.10;
$ aptitude show passwd | grep Version
Version: 1:4.1.1-1ubuntu1.2
