In the lastest karmic, inkscape is indeed put into the open with list
Although it is second, this is the behaviour with all other image types,
the preview application is shown first, the editing is then second.
This bug has been fixed

This is a packaging error. I just checked the files that I think should
be patched:
debian/inkscape.applications
debian/mime
They do not contain the svgz file type.
File: test.svgz
Type: compressed SVG image (image/svg+xml-compressed)
P.S. I think that the versioning in the deb package is wrong
A pre-release of the upcoming Inkscape 0.47 is now available in Ubuntu
Karmic for testing. Because *so* much stuff has changed compared with
