Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

I am using a German keyboard layout and after a while its still a German
keyboard (like with Umlauts still working) but AltGr keys dont work
anymore. AltGr-Q should give @ (hard to live without), but then it gives
q. Same for other keys, no | anymore (just gives <).

If I select any other keyboard in the GNOME config layout, and then go
back to my old, it works angain - for a while. But I am talking about
e.g. Generic 105 vs. Generic 101 keyboard layout - as I have removed all
other layouts but plain German.

I first reported this as a comment to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303769, but now this one is marked
duplicate to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295990. Any the error I
describe does not happen when I unlug/replug my USB keybord, it happens
just in the the middle of working on my computer. Thus, I guess, now I
have to report it as a separate issue.

Unfortunately, Iave not figured out yet what precisely makes it switch
to this odd and unusable "German keyboard layout without AltGR".
