This is just my 2 cents, but I feel I should express it.
In my view, restarting the X Server is not an essential function. It's
a hack, a terrible hack, to compensate for poor programming of X. We
should not come from a place where we ASSUME X will fail, and thus
enable Ctrl+Alt+Backspace by
Ctrl + alt+ backspace it's a excelent way to deal with a problem in a program.
Without it, the user will just restart the system. That's better? We should
make a BSOD too.
That key combination it's not very common and just a few users will make that
accidentaly.

I fully agree. Xorg does not detect my monitors refresh rate correctly
and quite often I have to use the ctrl-alt-backspace combination
immediately after booting to force it to try again (sometimes several
times).
