Have you followed the steps to install libdvdcss on 8.10 outlined here? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs DVDs are encrypted using a closed-source process. The capability to decrypt and play them is not installed by default in Ubuntu and must be enabled by the user.
