For me it works in Maverick normally, I see all contacts in list.

Bugs, which is subscribed to kdenetwork in ubuntu.
Run kres-migrator. It will create a special Akonadi resource which
synchronizes your Akonadi contacts to the old, pre-Akonadi style
kresources that Kopete is still looking for.

There's apparently a KDE4 GUI for managing old KDE Resources used by
older KDE applications, or KDE applications that haven't yet been ported
to Akonadi.
Go to System Settings, and click the Advanced tab.
