I want to point out to you, with the hope that this would be of Help to Ubuntu.
Xorg malfunctions, also, on my other HP 1160 PC AMD64 with Nvidia GeForce
FX53200XT graphics and Ubuntu 9.04 Release.
As per a previous Bug report, the monitor , a Samsung 193v, is reported as

Ubuntu 9.04
pulseaudio already works _a lot_ better in 9.04 and the intel xorg drivers will
probably start to work well as soon as upstream has finished the transition to
UXA (hopefully this will be done for 9.10 but there is no guarantees ofc).
Keith Packard has posted a good blog entry about the current
hp.com suggests HP 753 has either i810 or i815 (let's wait for lspci
to see). re-assigning to intel package meanwhile.
