Instead you should use for the moment the opensource driver. The
following is a howto:
1. get into recovery mode (when grub loads, press ESC, select recovery mode)
2. choose to get NETROOT from the menu

Did you get some kind of error while booting the jaunty live CD? Or when
did you run into the problem?
Also, can you please attach "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" and the output of
"lspci -vvnn" so we can see what hardware and software you're using
