daemontools appears to have been autostarted in Ubuntu Server 9.10. I
did not need to start it manually in the /etc/rc.local file. I have not
yet looked into how exactly it is autostated on 9.10, but thought to
post this as a FYI for others.

There are two concerns I have with this patch.
Firstly, it moves it from only supporting things like sysv-rc to
only supporting upstart. Can it be made to detect what to do
when installed? Then we wouldn't have to potentially carry
this change for ever.

I will see if I get it to run under sysv-rc and upstart by letting it determine
what logic to use.

started when it was running before postinst was called.

I think I am just smacking into this issue today. I was very confused
why daemontools was reporting that it was not running, even after a
reboot. Finally I found this page:

service started with:
#start daemontools
daemontools
To follow up, I have added a "start daemontools" to my /etc/rc.local
script. 'tis good duct tape for now.
