I also experience the endless blinking, however, I use a desktop
computer and no power manager. Blinking starts like random, I was unable
to identify what kind of effect triggered it.

I have found out that a very simple workaround works for me: suspend and resume.

Hmm, alright well without an Xorg.0.log from karmic we cannot begin
troubleshooting on this problem, but beyond that, from the information
provided so far it is sounding more like a gpm issue anyway.
