So without xhost you get XOpenDisplay(NULL) = NULL This is usually what happens if you do DISPLAY= ltrace xdpyinfo However, $DISPLAY is correct here. Can you test whether "xauth list" and "sudo xauth list" show the same values, or if the ones from sudo xauth ar
