Exactly the same on 9.10. I was having that problem with mplayer, and
when I find this I just close ktorrent and playback started to work.

Coming from another distro, but...
Confirming same issue on Gentoo x86, snd_intel8x0 driver. Sound device
locks up, killing ktorrent brings it back to life. This problem appears
to be an upstream issue.

Yes, everything gets back to normal. Output of lsof shows sound card as
unlocked.

I had same problem in Ubuntu 8.10.
At Kubuntu 9.04 it is happening much often to me.
