freakalad, bug 375825 is a different bug about problems with update-
rc.d.
It is not related to this problem with the boot parameter.

Also a problem for me on both AMD X2 and Intel Core2 CPU machines after
I upgraded kvm to 1:62+dfsg-0ubuntu8.1
Starting via libvirt:
$ virsh start ubuntu804-wiki
Connecting to uri: qemu:///system
libvir: QEMU error : QEMU quit during console startup
qemu: unknowm parameter 'boot' in
An update to fix this regression is now being built and will come out
later today.

Same problem after kvm update. I'm not able to start any guest since I
rebooted my host server.
