Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but
No no luck im afraid! finally managed to reinstall to try a fresh go but
nothign keeps crashing on restart any other ideas im trying a variety
of options but still nothing :(

I don't know about more stable, I've had experience with it when it wont
work, then after installing the drivers in synaptic/term I am able to
enable and disable them from the driver tool. I agree it should be more
consistent and can only assume it will become more consistent in time.

At the top of your choose SystemAdministrationSynaptic. In Synaptic
choose search, type Nvidia. Select Nvidia-glx-180. Allow it to use any
other files it recommends. Click apply. After it installs, restart your
computer. That should get you going.
The terminal method would be
#sudo apt-get

what version of nvidia driver are you trying to install?
Have you tried installing them from synaptic or terminal?
