I experience this file open dialog hangings after I save a file on a pen
drive and disconnect it. After this file open/save dialogs appear late.

I got to the bottom of the issue in 0.7 and it is now fixed upstream.
However, the issue in 0.6.93 seems to be a different one, so I need to
debug this some more.

In addition to this, I ran tracker-indexer through GDB, and it doesn't
actually seem to be doing anything with meta.db at this time.

I'm running 0.7 from GIT here but the issue looks the same. When
trackerd hangs, I see this repeatedly when I strace the process:

Killing tracker-indexer frees some of the file locks, tracker-indexer
gets restarted, and "File Open" dialogues then only take a few seconds
to appear, like normal.
