Try to also add an xmonad launcher in the gnome-session-properties, that
worked for me in jaunty. And let me know how it went. I've updated the
haskellwiki page already.

it's interesting to note that i used the jaunty instructions whilst on
intrepid and it worked, here's the link

clearing out ~/.gconf isn't an option for me --- I don't want to lose my
settings.
