Cruncher: this is an Xfce specific bug, so if you are using gnome-

After installing Karmic (immediately when it was released), the bug seemed
to be stomped. But then, one or two weeks ago, it reappered, with some

Hm, I have the same problem, but independent of the mixer (I have been using
gnome-volume-control for some time now, although I'm running Xubuntu), which
suggests that the problem is not in xfce4-mixer, but in the alsa configuration,

I'll test the workaround suggested in bu

I compiled and installed a newer version of xfce4-mixer which solved the
problem. Build dependencies can be got easier by "sudo apt-get build-dep
xfce4-mixer" . Then
./configure
make
sudo checkinstall
in the source directory. If I remember right, 2009-10-02 version can be used:

Are you going to make a patch or something for this bug? The solution
given by Antonio de Oliveira is difficult for me, because I'm afraid of
messing up the sound entirely. I'm running Xubuntu 9.10. Thank you.

Pulseaudio seems to be running on my Xubuntu 9.04 box, but I don't know
why. Could someone give a link to instructions on how to remove
pulseaudio, as it is presented here as a workaround of this bug?
