Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu. The acpi-support package is not involved with the screen locking policy; this would seem to be a screensaver issue. You don't mention whether you're using Ubuntu or another variant, so assuming gnome-screensaver. Howeve

Before setting blank_screen to true, the screen was just blanked but did not activate the screenblanker I selected in the screensaver prefs. If I set blank_screen to true the session locks. However, it still does not activate the screensaver I selected in the screensaver prefs (it just fades out i
