computer. So I can't say if Patrick's solution works. If this problem

Well, I also tried to install something from the add/remove panel (which
seemed to work), but it does not work anymore, not even for uninstalling
something
I think the problem started after I forced Gnome to shut down
(ctrl+alt+backspace), while synaptic was open.
I guess I'll have to reinsta

"froze" last night and I had to force shutdown. In any case, I ran:
sudo update-apt-xapian-index
and the problem appears to be fixed - Synaptic works once again.
