Public bug reported: Binary package hint: smbfs
Using Ubuntu 8.04.2 hardy with latest Updates. Test this: Mount a Windows Share with cifs and move/copy files to it. Name your local (linux) Files to contain somewhat special Characters like ( ) + @ and try several. Although it seems not to be caused soleyly by the filename. Transfer files with nautilus from ubuntu to the mounted share. Inspect the files. Here all of a sudden almost all the files I moved in one folder contained 0 byte files. The Filename sometimes seems to get truncated also. I lost the original Files this way so I can't directly verify this. Before that only some sporadic files were empty and I wasn't so shure about the existance of a bug or another cause. Now I am shure that there is this serious bug. Also I found no error messages in my kernel log and no errors in the samba logfile folder. This is also an unpleasant finding. I want debug messages if cifs messes around with files that badly or even fails without preserving the original file or whatever may be neccessary to preserve the files. So it does not even tell that something went wrong. To sum up: Transfer Files Loose them Get no Logfiles That needs a big bugfix. And the Testcases for the Developers in charge need to be extended. Seriously. ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- CIFS File Transfer from Ubuntu to Windows Share results in 0 Bytes File !
