Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeadmin

Related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/368977

Kubuntu 9.04
system-config-printer-kde 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2
system-config-printer-common 1.1.3+git20090218-0ubuntu19.1
hal-cups-utils 0.6.19+git20090217-0ubuntu7
python-qt4 0.6.19+git20090217-0ubuntu7
python-qt4-dbus 4.4.4-2ubuntu6
python-kde4 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2

Running as an ordinary user, I can create a printer configuration that
will persist through logout and re-login but will disappear upon reboot.
If I run with root privileges, I can create persistent configurations.

I do not see any configuration files written to my home directory when
system-config-printer-kde completes. I do see a notification box appear
and quickly disappear (too quickly to read, I'm afraid) the first time I
save the configuration. After that the box never reappears.

Also .xsession-errors contains entries like these when s-c-p-k is launched:
kcmshell(3619) KServiceFactory::findServiceByDesktopPath:
"findServiceByDesktopPath: kcm-scpk.desktop not found"

I can solve the problem by editing the Printer Configuration entry in
kmenuedit to require root privileges. I was, frankly, puzzled that they
weren't required to begin with.

** Affects: kdeadmin (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
