I get the same error message just trying sending a fax.
In the occasion I am sending a multiple file fax collecting jpg files.

I too am confused.
I believe that they can not understand me, but the problem exits. Will
mean that to send a file via fax writer use fax console from Xp and
Office 2003 running perfectly.
Obviously the problem is bigger than me ...

Stefano, I'm a bit confused by your description.
Do you use the efax extension inside OpenOffice.org? How is this issue related
to evince?
I have been able to reproduce this by opening the efax-gtk interface and
giving it an openoffice document... So this would then be an efax bug...
