Have the same problem, the bookmarking of ~/.gvfs works well.

Hi Michael B. Going to /home/username/.gvfs allows browsing to the samba
locations in the attachment file picker, however, trying to add that
location as a Bookmark causes it to vanish immediately from the file
picker (remains under bookmarks outside Thunderbird), not a problem for
me but it is a p
Hmmm for now actually I've symlinked ~/.gvfs and bookmarked that, which
appears to be staying visible even in Thunderbird, this should work for
now I'd say.
